The Jam Cruise 6 Greening Crew!

Since our maiden voyage Jam Cruise has been mindful of our ecological footprint. Each year we have found new and creative ways to minimize our impact and educate our passengers. This program honors our interconnectedness to each other, the places we travel to and the planet on which we live.

Attention All Ecologically Minded Passengers!

ZeroHero and the Jam Cruise 6 Green Team need your help!

In order to make this the most sustainable Jam Cruise to date, we are asking Jam Cruise 6 passengers to join our green team and volunteer to become a ZeroHero. Volunteers are needed to help educate passengers about the sustainable and recyclable products being used on-board. while volunteering at waste recovery stations located throughout the ship. There will be waste recovery stations at every venue, allowing everyone to “put waste in its place”. Volunteer shifts will be 2 hours in duration. ZeroHero is also looking for volunteers to assist with the silent auction and other miscellaneous greening activities.

In exchange for your dedication to creating a more sustainable Jam Cruise 6, we are offering the following benefits for volunteers. The more shifts you sign up for, the more benefits you will receive!

1 shift: ZeroHero / Jam Cruise 6 Green Team Volunteer t-shirt (available only to Jam Cruise 6 volunteers).

2 shifts: VIP invitation to the Green Jam Cruise 6 Greening Party. This celebration will be held on the last day at sea and will include performances by special guest artists.

3 shifts: Special edition Green Jam Cruise poster, signed by artist, Michael Everett.

4 shifts: A chance to win 2 weekend tickets to Langerado 2008.

Visit www.ZeroHeroEvents.com/volunteer to sign up. Please indicate that you wish to volunteer for Jam Cruise 6 as well as the number of shifts you would like to cover. There are a limited number of shifts and will be assigned on a first come first served basis.

Let's work together and make this the most sustainable Jam Cruise ever!

Greening Jam Cruise 6

The ultimate goal of Jam Cruise 6's greening program is to achieve a high "zero-rate," a goal that requires waste reduction, recycling, reuse, and passenger's energetic participation and support. For more information on zero-rates and becoming a ZeroHero on Jam Cruise 6 visit zeroheroevents.com. Another important feature of Greening Jam Cruise is our carbon offsetting program, which will connect passengers with award winning projects in Honduras that will offset Jam Cruise's CO2 emissions and will improve community health. Jam Cruise 6's greening program will strive toward a high "zero-rate" standard of excellence for waste reduction and recycling as well as making the cruise 100% carbon neutral. Our green team is working hard to bring these goals to fruition.

Recycling and Waste Reduction

By utilizing compostable and recyclable materials, and by training every Jam Cruise passenger to properly dispose of waste at designated waste stations throughout the ship, we will work to achieve a high "zero-rate." Jam Cruise passengers will become ZeroHeros simply by taking responsibility for and managing their own waste. The passengers will be trained to presort their waste, ultimately allowing us to keep our waste streams clean and separate. We will also be making the gradual transition to keg beer and biodegradable cups, called PLA (poly-lactic acid), which is derived from corn, and which will allow us to cut down on our plastic waste.blue sun

Biodiesel Test Program

Jam Cruise is working in partnership with Blue Sun Biodiesel and MSC Cruises on research and development to achieve the use of biodiesel on Jam Cruise. Blue Sun is putting its best effort forward with an engine test program in the coming months. If these efforts are successful, and Jam Cruise is powered by B20 biodiesel, a significant reduction of carbon dioxide and sulfur will be achieved, thus significantly reducing our ecological footprint.

Carbon-Offsetting Options

twp In order to achieve the goal of making Jam Cruise 6 100% carbon neutral we will offer our passengers a variety of offsetting options to choose from. These options support carbon reduction and sustainable development projects in Honduras and other Central American countries. Jam Cruise 6 is partnering with Ashden Award winning Trees, Water & People. TWP has been tackling the challenge of global warming for years by reducing carbon emissions and improving indoor air quality with their Justa stoves program. Their fuel-saving stoves program, tree planting nurseries and solar energy projects all reduce the amount of CO2 and other greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere. Jam Cruise passengers will have the opportunity to help with offsetting the CO2 emissions from the cruise as well as their personal travel to/from Fort Lauderdale.

Leaving a Positive Legacy The intention behind this program is to do something positive for the communities we travel to, and to provide Jam Cruise passengers with information about environmental issues in those regions. Activities will be planned for Roatan and Costa Maya that our passengers will have the opportunity to participate in. Together we will leave a positive legacy in our wake!

JAM CRUISE 6 IS 100% REPLANTED!

your true nature Each of us uses an average of six 12-14" diameter trees - in paper and wood products every year. Worldwide, tree harvesting far outstrips replanting, threatening the clean water, air supplies, and livelihoods of many people. Nearly 7,000 pounds of paper (35 full size trees) are being used for Jam Cruise 6 for programs, newsletters and a variety of needs. Your True Nature, Inc. of Fort Collins, Colorado www.yourtruenature.com, a sustainable publisher of nature products, is underwriting the cost of paper AND sponsoring the replanting of 350 new trees to offset the paper used on Jam Cruise. Ten new seedling trees will be planted through the non profit Trees, Water & People for each of the 35 trees harvested.

Jam Cruise 6 Daily Greens

Each day aboard Jam Cruise, A daily newsletter is distributed to each passenger including port information, updates, and of course The Daily Greens a news and information bulletin from the greening crew. For those who can not join us on the ship, and for those that may not find the time during the cruise, we have posted them here for your casual review:

School supplies drive has been expanded to Cozumel!

We are pleased to announce that school supplies will also be delivered to two charities in Cozumel -- NUAFA and the Cozumel Chrysalis Group!

NUAFA ("Nucleo de Apoya Familiar" means Heart of Family Support) was founded in 2001 by local volunteers to help single parents and their children affected by difficult family situations (i.e. abandonment, abuse, divorce drugs/alcoholism, homeless, rape, suicide). NUAFA operates on a shoestring, funded solely by donations.

The Cozumel Chrysalis Group, established in 1995, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial scholastic support for the island's students. Mexican public school students pay a registration fee and must provide their own uniforms and classroom supplies. Many families in Cozumel lack the financial ability to send their children to school. Both charities are dedicated to helping children in need achieve their full potential.

The wish list for Cozumel is the same as the wish list for Roatan Children's Fund, and in addition they are also requesting basic calculators and scientific calculators.

Thank you to JC6 passengers for throwing something in your suitcase for the kids!

All passengers who make a donation will receive a raffle ticket to win a rare piece of artwork – This unique Greening Jam Cruise poster was created by Michael Everett. It is an artist proof signed by Michael and more than 100 Jam Cruise 5 artists! Those passengers who donate a backpack filled with 3 or more items on the wish list will be given 5 raffle tickets.
